Welcome to September Running Friends!
We do hope to offer a modified Daytona Running Series this year, once series races return.
We hope you will support the long time DRS event Halifax
Hospice Virtual 5k. Many of us have
been touched in some way by this charity. (Port Orange is not issuing any
special event permits through December 31, 2020)
There are some running events happening this fall, but you may need to drive outside the Volusia County area to participate. We have expanded our local race calendar to include interesting running events as far away as Jacksonville, Orlando, and the Cocoa Beach/Melbourne area. The Run & Walk For Success 5k presented by Brown & Brown scheduled for September 26 at LPGA International may be the 1st running event in Volusia County since March of 2020. It’s version of complying with social distancing will be to break the 5k into four 5ks starting 30 minutes apart with a maximum of 50 runners per event. The race is also offered virtually
There will be a 5k run on Labor Day in Jacksonville. Here is this race’s version of complying with social distancing guidelines:
“Waves will start in groups of 100. Start groups will be socially
separated. 5 participants wide. 5 runners are started every 5 seconds. See
photo below. Each wave will be started in two-minute intervals”
If you would like a longer race, the Red Carpet 5k/10k/Half Marathon has updated their race to address social distancing concerns, and will start at 630 AM on Sunday October 4 in Cocoa Village.
Always fun, the Oceans 50
Relay Race will again happen the 1st Saturday in November in
Flagler County. This event is always limited to 50 teams, and the teams have
always had staggered starts based upon the expected team pace. Each team can consist of 2-6 runners, and there
are different divisions based on gender and whether the team is an ultra (2
runners) or standard team. The course starts and finishes near A1A outside of
Palm Coast and Flagler Beach. (The course maybe altered to avoid permit
issues in the 2 cities)
We will update the Local Race Calendar weekly, so keep checking back for updates:
We Hope
Everyone is enjoying their training runs!
